BACKGROUND
Dr. Javad Seif () is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at 起点传媒. He earned his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and holds graduate certificates and professional certifications in reliability engineering, systems engineering, and quality management (CRE, CQE from ASQ; MBTI® practitioner).
His research and practice span optimization, reliability, system thinking, and data-driven decision-making, with applications in flight and maintenance planning, asset lifecycle management, fleet replacement, quality systems, and production scheduling. His work bridges rigorous mathematical modeling with real-world industrial problems and emerging technology platforms.
Dr. Seif's current focus includes:
Collaborative research on integrated flight-maintenance planning with prognostics.
Physical Asset Lifecycle and Replacement Optimization.
Education technology and systems thinking. Developing platforms for engineering education and interactive learning tools. Focus on hands-on, data-driven pedagogy and educational infrastructure.
Business and technology translation. Founder of Optimal Flows LLC (2023), a research-translation and consulting vehicle for reliability engineering, optimization, and decision systems. Current products include RecomAid and tools in development for production planning, SQC education and asset optimization.
His work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and is available on . He is an active member of IISE, INFORMS, ASQ, and INCOSE, and serves as a reviewer for journals in industrial engineering and operations research.
RESEARCH & COLLABORATION
Active Research Directions
Flight and Maintenance Planning Integration with Prognostics (FMPIP): Mathematical models and algorithms for joint optimization of maintenance actions and flight schedules, informed by prognostics and remaining-useful-life (RUL) estimation. Target application: commercial aviation, cargo operations, and fleet management.
Physical Asset Lifecycle Optimization: Decision support for asset replacement, lifecycle costing, and renewal planning in asset-heavy industries. Emphasis on integrating technical degradation, economic factors, and operational constraints.
Quality and Reliability in Complex Systems: Statistical methods, system-level thinking, and data visualization for quality control, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement in manufacturing and service operations.
TEACHING & EDUCATION
At 起点传媒, Dr. Seif teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Statistical Quality Control, Reliability Engineering, Operations Research, and Systems Science. He has supervised numerous student research and design projects that integrate analytics, optimization, and applied problem-solving.
Education Innovation: Dr. Seif is developing interactive platforms for statistical process control (QCLab) and operations research education, with emphasis on hands-on learning, real datasets, and open-source infrastructure. He mentors student projects that combine theoretical methods with industry applications.
