The exhibition celebrates the College of Environmental Design’s University Permanent Collections of Fine Art and Design by highlighting a selection of artworks from several of its most prominent collections. These Collections include those donated by by the estates of Col. James Jones, Raymond Burr & Robert Benevides, and the Ink & Clay Collection. The exhibit also includes recent acquisitions from other individual donors and artist-donors including Jim Morphesis, Thomas McGovern, and Megan Geckler. This exhibition will be staged as a "mock-up" for a hypothetical installation proposed for the Student Services Building - East, Floors 1, 2 and 3 and will include the proposal's architectural and photographic renderings curated by Student Gallery Assistants.

For the first time we have produced a special and experimental exhibition referred to as a “progressive exhibit”. This means that this exhibition is still “in progress”, while students and staff continue to work on elements of the exhibition —including, but not limited to, the inventory of objects, researching, writing and designing didactic panels for the exhibition walls.

Informational notebooks are available at the front desk credenza for visitors interested in more information about the individual artworks on display in lieu of our regularly included wall text panels.

This is also the first time that a Gallery exhibit is being used as a “prospective proposal” for future installation and display of these same University Permanent Collection artworks in other areas of the campus —specifically the Student Services Building, East, floors 1-3. As a result, the exhibition will include student designed architectural renderings, sun studies, floorplans, photo-mockup images, video fly-throughs and digital presentations as part of this proposal, also in progress.

This is all an ongoing project worked on by student Gallery Assistants and the Gallery Curator over the last 6 months (Spring/Summer 2026) —a project that would usually take 2 to 3 years to complete from conception to finalization.

As a result, you may see gallery student staff working in real time on aspects of this exhibition throughout Fall 2026 while we are open to the public. Attendants at the front desk may answer any questions you have. If you see other staff at work, please be mindful of their time and efforts as they work on this “Proposal in Real Time”.
