Master of Science in Quantitative Economics Curriculum
The degree requires a total of 30 units, including 12 units of core graduate courses; a 6-unit graduate research project; three specific 3-unit undergraduate courses offered evenings in Fall Semester (Mathematical Economics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and Econometrics); and one additional 3-unit course taken with approval of the graduate coordinator. The department offers upper-division courses such as AI and Machine Learning and/or Geospatial Econometrics in evenings in Spring to serve the needs of graduate students who can only attend courses in the evening.
The program has flexibility to address the variation in prior background of MS students. Although core courses must be completed by all students, alternatives to the other requirements may be allowed with approval of the graduate coordinator. Some coursework outside of the economics department may be accepted. Specifically, students may enroll in selected Graduate Business courses and count them toward the MS in Economics with approval of both the Business and Economics Graduate Coordinators.

- May be upper-division economics course like EC 4447/5558 (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Economic Research); or EC 4448 (Spatial Econometrics); or other course approved by the Graduate Coordinator (need not be in Economics).
